ACR122U NFC Reader Writer + 5 PCS Ntag213 NFC Tag . As part of my final project in my EE studies I was thinking if it is possible to read 125KHz RFID tags with a smartphone. I know it is possible with NFC (13.56MHz) and I was thinking about implementing a 125KHz reader. I’m looking to use my iPhoneXR to read an RFID tag that’s 125kh. Is this possible with an app like NFC tools? I’m looking to identify the ID of some Galaxy’s edge kyber crystals, which use RFID, but I can’t figure out if using a phone to read the ID would work.
I'm currently learning more about RFID just for fun, specifically 125kHz. I should preface that I am specifically NOT learning about 13.56 MHz NFC frequency. I've recently learned what I can do with it and know I can use my phone and NFC tools for that. I would like to build a reader/writer for HID 125KHz RFID tags. Most tags at 125KHz are read only. The ones you can write to are just to put the readable ID into the tag, there is no room for data. I'm planning to build an access control system using an ESP32 microcontroller and integrating RFID 125kHz cards along with NFC technology. However, I'm facing a dilemma regarding sensor compatibility. Is there a sensor available .
No, the 125 kHz tags won't work with the 13.56 MHz reader. However you can work around this (if you want to) by using the 125 kHz tags with a different reader. Share NFC enabled phones can ONLY read NFC and passive high frequency RFID (HF-RFID). These must be read at an extremely close range, typically a few centimeters. For longer range or any other type of RFID/active RFID, you must use an external reader for handling them with mobile devices. No, 125khz is RFID. While related to NFC, they are not cross compatable. Also, iphone NFC is very restricted, so you can't just copy anything. Outside of payment systems, about the only thing it can do is read and open a URL on an NFC chip.
