A business I deal with now uses tags, but although others with iPhone 7's are able to read these tags through the app, mine does not. Since ApplePay works, they are at a loss to explain.What is an NFC reader? Any powered device that has its own NFC coil (like a smartphone or tablet) can act as an NFC reader. Just have the Vin number ready. FYI: You can always start your car even with a dead fob. If the battery is ever completely dead, just press the start button WITH the fob itself. There's a RFID type chip inside the fob that gets scanned when it's at close range with the button. When you turn the ignition key, the interlock sent a coded signal towards the key, and the RFID chip in the key modified the code in a predictable (at least to the interlock) manner and sent the code back to the interlock.
